Welcome Spring!!

Spring is on its way, (we hope!) but so is the unpredictable weather. Please check to see if your child is dressed appropriately for the snow, rain, wind and hopefully sunny days.

Flag Football

Mr. Clark has been busy with a group of students during recess and lunch hour by playing Flag Football. The children have enjoyed this sport very much. Thank you Mr. Clark!

Skating

Our students have enjoyed the skating program again this year and we look forward to going next year. Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make this program a success!

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on April 7^th from 4:00-7:00 and April 9^th from 1:00 – 3:00. Home Reports will go out April 6th. You may call the school to book an appointment time with your child’s teacher at 738-6505.

Winter Carnival

Winter Carnival week was great fun! The students enjoyed the theme days and activities that were planned by the teachers. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make this week a success!

Thank you to everyone for all the “kind words” and “wonderful treats” that you provided the staff of Morna Heights School for Teacher Appreciation Week. It was greatly appreciated by all!!

School Mascot

In the Fall, we asked students to do a writing piece to name our new school mascot. We narrowed it down to four names, Huskies, Mustangs, Hawks and Magic. The school voted before March Break and we are pleased to let you know that we will now be the “Morna Heights Huskies.”

Earth Day

Our theme for March/April is “Being Green.” As part of our theme we would like to observe Earth Hour. Our school will participate on Friday, March 26^th from 10:50 – 11:50 by turning out the lights for 1 hour.

Wanted!!

Any gently used books, working order CD Diskman Players or beanbag chairs. If you have any of these items that you would like to donate to the school, please drop off in the office. Thank you!

Marigolds

Students will be planting Marigolds in their classroom again this year. They will be busy watering them and monitoring their growth. We plan to plant the marigolds in front of the school again this year.

Kindergarten Orientation Day

Kindergarten Orientation Day will be held on May 13^th. It will give the new students an opportunity to meet their teacher and take part in a few centers. They will also be given a ride on the school bus and introduced to the school bus rules.

PSSC Meeting

Our next PSSC meeting will be held on Thursday, March 11^th..They will meet at 6:30 .

Good-Bye

We are going to miss Mrs. Melanie McGovern-Hooley as she has taken a temporary position as a Library Assistant at Lorne Middle School and Prince Elizabeth School. We are looking forward to her return to Morna Heights in the fall. Ms. Denise Richardson will be taking her place until further notice.

HOCKEY TICKET DRAW

Thank you to all the students and parents for selling Sea Dog hockey tickets. The winner was Mindy Amirault, congratulations!!! We made a profit of $267 for our playground.

TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION

Thank you to all the parents for sending in money for Teacher/Staff Appreciation. Because of your generoisity we were able to provide the staff with daily treats of muffins, fruit, sweets, pizza and cake. Our staff really appreciated everything!!!

St. Patrick’s Day Dance

We are having a dance on St. Patrick’s day Wednesday, March 17 from 6:30 to 8:30

pm at the school. So come, wear green (optional) and enjoy the fun. This dance is for Morna Heights students only. The cost per student is $3. There will be a DJ, canteen of various food items, 50/50 draw. If you can volunteer please call the school at

738-6505.

Easter Draw

We will be selling tickets on Easter pails/baskets at the school during recess/lunch on Thursday, April 1 to raise money for our playground. Tickets will be $1 each. They will be on display at the school the week of March 29. The Draw will take place at the school the afternoon of Thursday, April 1. Thank you in advance for your support.

Playground

We have been busy applying for grants and raising money for our playground. Our playground fund is now $11,744.03!!!! We want to take this opportunity to thank all the students, parents, staff for their support and patience on this important project.

Volunteers

The Home and School would like to thank all our volunteers. We appreciate all of you and we could not do the things we do or hold the events for the children without you!!! Thanks.

PSSC UPDATE

We have just started our second 6-week “Boot Camp” on Feb. 21^st. Once again the response has been amazing!

Plans are underway for a third session! Classes begin April 4^th – May 12^th, Boot Camp with Alex Sullivan on Sunday and Cardio Tae boxing with Lauren Chang on Wednesday’s. Please call Tara Safford at 738-3544 or Stephanie Hoellwarth at 738-8881.

Thank you to Tara and Stephanie for organizing the classes as well as a big thank you to Alex Sullivan and Kathy Gilmore for teaching the classes!!

We are planning to have a “Literacy Night in the spring. We will communicate the details soon. If you have any books to donate that your children have grown out of, we would gladly accept them.
